Spring with the Bratislava Boys' Choir

Springtime with the Bratislava Boys’ Choir

A transatlantic tour, premiere of our own project in the Slovak National Theater (SND) as well as concerts for Slovakia towns: the Bratislava Boys’ Choir is gearing up for rich springtime experiences.

In spite of the ongoing pandemic, our choir is in full preparation mode for our spring projects: We’re always in full swing. Boys’ voices change around age 12 or 13 and so these kids don’t have much time for their ‘early career’ steps. This is also why we’re fully at work, delving into our springtime projects, so we can bring our best to our fans and supporters after a long stretch of COVID-19 across the globe,” says the Bratislava Boys’ Choir conductor Magdaléna Rovňáková.

The boys are looking forward to returning to the Slovak National Theater as early as February when the SND Opera restages G. Puccini’s Turandot. At the end of March, with support from the Fund for the Support of the Arts, the choir performs a number of concerts for Slovakia towns, including Trenčín and Ružomberok.

In May, an ensemble section tours to the United States and six American cities, including Washington, D.C. and New York City. We will be presenting our sacred as well as secular program in churches and concert venues.

“We are preparing along with an agency with which we had a good experience in the past. We are very happy to bring to our music to the U.S. already for the seventh time, especially this being our 40th anniversary year,” says conductor and choir manager Magdaléna Rovňáková.

After returning from the United States the choir will be engaged in a significant collaboration with the Slovak National Theater in our project, The Story of Music: Mystery of the Human Voice. This special edition of The Story of Music project was commissioned by the Slovak National Theater.

“Our voice is a musical instrument we always carry with us. Even when we think we know it well, it still contains many mysteries and unexplored possibilities. We’re going to familiarize ourselves with it in new a collaboration between the Bratislava Boys’ Choir and the Slovak National Theater,“ says the project author and Bratislava Boys’ Choir conductor Gabriel Rovňák.

The premiere will take place on June 29, 2022, in the grand hall of the Slovak National Theater Opera and Ballet. In the beginning of summer our ensemble will perform at one of Slovakia‘s prestigious music festivals.
